“At the heart of this house is an over-sized kitchen island – An entertaining hub for two social restauranteurs and their sons.”
Started on a napkin in the owners’ restaurant, the concept for this house maximizes the site’s uninterrupted northern exposure over the Clutha River whilst taking into account the strict height covenants with recession planes. The house wraps itself around a West-facing walled courtyard which captures afternoon sun and maintains views through the living area to the river and reserve beyond. The house was raised 900mm above ground to tie in the two-story garage and guest room, but also so that the living areas would be high enough to benefit from panoramic views.
