Kane House

This home, designed for a busy family of four boys, is a warm contemporary retreat defined by natural materials and strong architectural flow. Clad in vertical random-width cedar shiplap and schist stone, it balances texture, durability, and refined simplicity. Expansive views stretch from the Cardrona Valley to Lake Hāwea and the surrounding mountains.

Thoughtfully planned, the home separates formal and informal spaces to support everyday family life, with a guest flat and drive-through garaging adding flexibility and ease. At its centre, a sheltered courtyard creates a calm, protected outdoor space that anchors the home.

Inside, open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas connect seamlessly, enhanced by tactile timber flooring, a central island bench, generous glazing, and a strong sense of light, warmth, and connection to the landscape.
